How to Create an FBM Listing on Amazon

Amazon offers different types of fulfillment options for sellers with Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) being particularly popular. Fulfillment by Merchant (FBM) is another option where you are responsible for the shipping of your own inventory.

Is it possible to convert from FBA to FBM, or vice versa? The answer is yes, and we’ll show you how you can do it easily. You’ll also learn how to list the same ASIN with both FBA and FBM fulfilment options.

Can you list the same item as FBA and FBM?

The answer is yes. In this post, we’ll explain how to do it. It’s very easy!

Note, this is not having a duplicate listing. It is the same ASIN with a different SKU and different fulfilment options – FBA or FBM.

How to convert a listing from FBA to FBM

When creating a new listing, sometimes the checkbox for fulfilment is overlooked and oops – you’ve listed your product under the wrong channel. Luckily it’s an easy fix.

You may want to use this method if you’ve decided to let Amazon take care of the shipping (you would then convert your listing to FBA). You could also decide to remove your inventory from the Amazon warehouses, in which case you could convert the listing to FBM if you plan to take care of your own shipping.

1. From Seller Central’s top left menu, select “Manage All Inventory”.

Select Manage All Inventory

2. Find the product/ASIN you’d like to convert (Note: you can also filter by FBA and FBM listings if you have a lot of different SKUs). Click on the dropdown arrow next to the “Edit” button.

Select the dropdown arrow new to edit

3. To convert an FBA listing to FBM, click “Change to Fulfilled by Merchant”.

How to list the same ASIN by “Adding a condition”

1. From the top left menu in Seller Central, select “Manage All Inventory”.

Select Manage All Inventory

2. Find the product/ASIN you would like to add as FBM and select the dropdown menu next to the “Edit” button.

3. Select “Add another condition”.

Select add another condition

4. A new tab will open up that looks like the one below. Fill in the necessary information. The contribution SKU is important here. Because both FBA and FBM listings have the same ASIN, you’ll need to differentiate between them. An easy way to do this is to add “FBM” to the end of your SKU.

Enter FBM or FBA at the end of your contribution SKU

5. Select your fulfilment channel as Merchant Fulfilled and hit the “Save and finish” button at the bottom of the page.

Choose your fulfilment channel

And that’s it! Now you have the same ASIN listed as both FBA and FBM.

How to list the same ASIN by “Adding a new product”

This method is almost identical to the one above, except that you “add a new product” and search for the existing ASIN you want to add a fulfilment channel to.

1. Select “Add a product”, either from the main Seller Central Menu or the Manage Inventory menu:

add a product from the main menu
add a product from the manage inventory page

2. Enter the ASIN you want to create a “duplicate” listing for:

enter your ASIN under product IDs

3. Amazon will find the ASIN and give you the option to create another listing.

4. Choose your fulfilment channel as Merchant Fulfilled and hit “Save and finish”.

Additional Considerations When Listing FBM

There are some other additional considerations when listing a product as FBM that you will want to be aware of.

  1. When you create an FBM listing, you have to set (and monitor) your inventory levels. When first creating the FBM listing, you’ll be asked to include the “quantity”. This is the number of items that you have in stock.
  2. You have to set up your shipping templates for FBM listings.

And that’s it! Now you’ve got plenty of ways to create an FBM listing on Amazon.
